Clitoria Ternatea is native to tropical areas of Asia and named rather bluntly after the clitoris, because the deep blue flowers resemble the shape. The most common English name is butterfly pea.
She is highly prized plant with a rich history of use all over Asia. People believed this to be a true gift of nature as almost every part of the plant are known to have beneficial effects.
The ocean blue flowers are used as a natural food colouring. It’s added to rice, tea, fruit juice or cocktails. Butterfly pea flowers contain a natural antioxidant - the blue proanthocyanidin.
They are extremely easy to care for and thrives in our hot tropical climate.
